CHEMISTRY

Chemistry Division:

The Chemistry division deals with the following items of evidence: Examination of petroleum products like petrol, diesel etc. Examination of substandard construction materials like bricks, cements concrete materials etc. Detection of alcohol in the blood and urine in case of suspected drunkenness.Examination of inflammable material in cases of arson, dowry deaths, rape cases etc.Analysis of pesticide, insecticides, narcotics, dangerous drugs like opium, ganja, LSD etc.Examination of metal alloys and metal fragments

Toxicology is the science of poisons. It deals with the nature, origin, properties, mode of administration, physiological action, the signs and symptoms, extraction and identification of poisons. The extraction of poison and its identification is the chief concern of the forensic toxicologist.
The word ’Poison’ means a substance, which when taken into the mouth or stomach or when absorbed into the blood, is capable of seriously affecting the health, or destroying life by its action on the tissues, with which it immediately or after absorption comes into contact. The amount of a toxic agent necessary to cause death is known as lethal dose (LD).This may vary from poison to poison and with individuals depending upon age, sex, health, habits etc.
